Step into the bygone time on the sandy spit, where theatre-like figures portray the complexity of the lives of the Curonian people. Klaipėda artist Aida Pečeliūnienė gifted her work to the National Park of the Curonian Spit in 2020 with an aim to showcase traditional everyday activities of yesteryear.
There are 56 porcelain dolls, which are building boats, fishing, harvesting hay, running from sand buried homes, looking for amber and sailing the lagoon. The exhibit reads: “This tale is about a mysterious, unbelievable world of wind and sand, about a strip of sand between two waters, where terrible shrieks of crows and cries of seagulls scare passersby. It is about the humble yet proud Curonians.”
The exhibit also features a selection of 19th century engravings, collected by historian Kęstutis Demereckas.
