Location: southwest of Nida
Nida’s Gliding School - the main gliding summer camp in Lithuania - was in operation from 1933 to 1939. A total of 508 gliders took part in its training activities, with gliders coming to train from Germany, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Finland, France, Czechoslovakia, Holland, etc. Jonas Pyragius, who glided 22 hours 36 min in 1936 was one of the students, as well as Lithuanian record holder Alfredas Gysas, who glided 26 hours and 3 min in 1938, reaching the 3rd place in the world record list.
In the place of the now dismantled hangar, visitors can find an arch paying tribute to the school. Celebrating the 65th anniversary of the institution in 1998, a memorial stone was unveiled to commemorate Lithuanian and German gliders. The site can be reached via a route that starts at Parnidis Dune.
