Location: L. Rėzos st 8, Juodkrantė
This monument of a professor at the University of Königsberg, publisher of Lithuanian texts and prominent advocate of the Lithuanian language and folklore stands in one of the main squares of Juodkrantė resort.
Erected in 1994 by sculptor Arūnas Sakalauskas, it celebrates the achievements of Martynas Liudvikas Rėza, who published the most influential Lithuanian literature work of Kristijonas Donelaitis titled “Seasons” in 1818 and the collection of Lithuanian songs "Dainos oder Littauische Volkslieder" in 1825.
A son of a now extinct neighbouring village of Karvaičiai, Rėza (1776–1840) was also an author, poet, folklore enthusiast and, perhaps most importantly, a relentless ambassador of the Lithuanian language.
