Location: Pamario st 2A, Nida
Some people have a gift to become legendary in the memory of people. Such a figure, musician, author, director, host, a Lithuanian sung poetry pioneer and a dear fan of Neringa was Vytautas Kernagis.
Sculptor Romualdas Kvintas used bronze as a medium to commemorate his masterful personality on one of Nida’s benches overlooking the lagoon. Opened in 2009, it signifies an honouring of maestro’s involvement in the annual season opening festival of Nida “Benai, plaukiam į Nidą” (“Ben, let’s go to Nida”). Natural size Kernagis’ sculpture with his main accessory, his trusty guitar, invites passers-by to take a photo. The nearby square is a common outdoor venue for cultural events, artists and musicians.
The memorial offers an interactive opportunity to listen to Kernagis’ songs. Visit www.88.lt to pick one of 60 songs that can be played in real time through the speakers near the sculpture.
