The statuesque mould is a token to the largest animal of the Curonian Spit and a symbol of its abundant forests.
Neringa’s residents manifested their undying love for the majestic horned animal during Neringa’s 50 anniversary celebrations in 2011: when the locals were asked to pick what shape the anniversary sculpture should take, they cast their vote for a moose. In 2014 the sculpture was unveiled in the yard of the Administration of the National Park of the Curonian Spit.
It is said that rubbing the statue’s nose guarantees one will spot a real moose in Neringa.
