The Soundcatcher

The Soundcatcher

Location: north of Juodkrantė

A peculiar looking object in the middle of Juodkrantė’s ancient forest is a popular attraction among the youngest guests of Neringa. Its interactive megaphone shaped spiral invites one to explore the magnificent sounds of nature. Climb into the wider part or listen at the narrower side of this three-metre-wide creation, where the ambience of the forest is amplified: it even catches many sounds that are impossible to be heard by the naked ear. It is recommended to stay inside for at least half an hour in order to fully experience the symphony of the natural elements and to awaken your senses.

You will find the object in the northern part of Juodkrantė, at Gintaro (Amber) Bay turning right from the main road Smiltynė - Nida. The soundcatcher greets you at a forest opening, about 200 metres deep into the forest: follow the fork to the left and look out for route signs with the soundcatcher. By the way, the forest path you travel along was once called by Germans the Bloksberg Promenade.

The wooden structure was created by the staff of the National Park of the Curonian Spit. Visitors can also scan QR codes nearby and listen to the songs of local birds.
