Nida is guarded by two dunes with high pine trees. One of them is the Urbas Hill. The name of the hill originates from a word “urbti”, i.e. to drill holes to plant trees.
At the northern foot of the Parnidis Dune, there is the Valley of Silence, a quiet place surrounded by other dunes. To commemorate the restoration of Lithuania's independence in 1991, a roadside pillar was built at the beginning of the valley. This is where the Parnidis Nature Trail begins.
Having climbed the Parnidis Dune on the southern side of the settlement of Nida, one finds the place where the white dunes are located. It is the only place in the Curonian Spit National Park where the chain of shifting dunes has survived to this day.
It is the widest place on the Curonian Spit peninsula, reaching 3.8 km. The name of the cape and the bay in the country is believed to have originated from the Curonian surname Bulvikis.
The green carpet of mountain pines planted by the hands of people opens up in all its beauty from the Old Inn Hill (in the Curonian language called Vecekrūgas), situated between Preila and Nida, in the Karvaičiai Landscape Reserve.
South- and northward stretches the Great Dune Ridge of the Curonian Spit, which does not exist only at the widest parts of the spit, i.e. the Bulvikis and Birštvynas capes, where the dunes have been blown far into the lagoon. In this part of the spit, the Great Dune Ridge is green. Its peaks are covered with mountain pine forests, and the slopes and dune slacks are full of the Scots pine forests, most of which have been planted by humans.
In the northern part of the Karvaičiai Landscape Reserve, between Preila and Pervalka, Karvaičiai Hill (about 59.4 m) preserves one of the most tragic history of the flooding of the Curonian Spit villages.
Only after leaving Juodkrante towards Nida, before climbing the steep Aries Hill, there is another in the old forest - Garniai Hill, named after the nearby gray herons and great cormorants.
Since ancient times, St John’s Day has been celebrated on the Hill of Witches, which was formerly known as the Hill of John and Eve. Currently, one can see a unique open-air exposition, while following the hill’s trail.
