On World Earth Day, a new Parnidis dune cognitive trail has opened in Neringa!

The location of the new stairs to the Parnidis dune leads through the western side of the Valley of Silence, thus opening up impressive panoramas of the Curonian Spit. The Parnidis Landscape Reserve is characterized by an aesthetically valuable landscape, with a dune ridge planted with mountain pines in the north and a sand blown dune in the south. It is the only place in the Curonian Spit national park where the chain of sand blown dunes has survived so far, so the design of the new stairs was aimed at maximally adapting to the current dune terrain in the place with the lowest risk of sand blowing.

From now on visitors will be able to admire the panoramas of the new cognitive trail in four sights. From the Neringa Sports School to the Sundial at the top of the Parnidis dune, 22 new benches of various shapes, an artistic-interactive instalation “Make your dune”, the landmarks of the Parnidis reserve and 6 information stands about the uniqueness and history of the landscape have been installed. The new stairs leading to the Parnidis dune is the first project in Neringa using larch wood – a guarantee of longevity and durability.

The old stairs leading to the Parnidis dune, which had served for almost three decades (designed by architect A. Zaviša in 1997), have already been blocked and will soon be dismantled. Visitors are asked to follow the warning signs and stop using them for security reasons.
