Welcome autumn in Neringa

September the month of tourism

Experience the velvety start of autumn in the Curonian Spit - immerse yourself in the unique nature and culture of Neringa this September.

The spellbinding beauty of Neringa with golden dunes, murmuring sea, and fragrant pine forests soothes bodies and minds in all seasons.  Even more so, when the gentle start of autumn often awards visitors of Neringa with warm sunny weather, and the Baltic sea is still balmy for dipping: September, officially the tourism month in Neringa, is the time for adventure, new experiences and deep rest.

Start your Curonian break with nature, the true healer of all: the ancient forest of Juodkrantė invites visitors to explore its centuries-old secrets and enthralling sceneries with a guided tour by nature guide Renata Kilinskaitė on 7  September, and with a forest hike by the Nature School of the Curonian Spit on 22 September.

Then, feast your eyes over the romantic horizons over the lagoon waters. More than 100 competitors from 13 countries will meet on the waters of the Curonian Lagoon on 4 to 7  and 5 to 15 September in two professional sailing events - the Lithuanian Adult and Junior as well as World Deaf Sailing championships. Another sporting event will make visitors raise their heads to the sky to spot the parachuting, helicopter, paragliding and acrobatic aeroplane shows in the annual aeronautics festival “Aero Nida 2024”.

There are many treats planned for the culture fans in Neringa this September. The last Friday of the month, 27 September, will see free entry to most museums of Neringa (plus 50 percent off in the Mizgiriai Amber Museum; visit www.neringosmuziejai.lt for more details). If you prefer a guided excursion through the history of Neringa, enjoy free museum tours until 12 September, covering Thomas Mann Memorial Museum, Ethnographic Fisherman's Homestead in Nida and the History Museum of the Curonian Spit. There is an additional free guided tour of these cultural destinations on 27 September, including a visit to the unique ethnographic cemetery of Nida.

Neringa has long attracted the great minds, talents and personalities to its shores. This September welcomes Nida’s sixth international forum, where prominent international speakers will address European identity and geopolitical topics (www.mann.lt).

The conversations and discoveries will continue, weaving through the authentic streets of Neringa’s settlements. Nida and Juodkrantė’s free guided tours on 14 and 28  September will take explorers through their unique, protected architecture and absorbing history. The many fans of Nida will hear riveting stories in a free guided excursion “From Nidden to Nida” on 21 September (register by emailing info@visitneringa.lt).

There is another occasion to feel the fresh breeze from the lagoon in the traditional autumn equinox celebration in Amber Bay of Juodkrantė on 22 September. Or meet up with friends old and new, who care about the environment in the annual festival “Sveika, Neringa”, where like minded people join their forces to tidy up the seashore, debate the future of the Baltic Sea and dance the night away in the concert of Lithuanian singer Monika Liu.

Sports lovers adore Neringa due to its many outdoors exercise possibilities. Cheer the traditional Nida’s half marathon runners on 28 September or join in the fun of hiking on 5 October, where nature guide Renata Kilinskaitė will cover some of the most picturesque spots of Neringa, culminating the hike at the Horn of Horses (register by emailing info@visitneringa.lt).

The busiest season of the year for the local businesses will close with a sincere celebration of their hard work and hospitality. The mayor of Neringa is asking Neringa’s visitors and residents to vote for their favourite local tourism spot in Neringa - you can nominate via https://forms.gle/Jtyaj8EA6L444HFL9 until 15 September. The winner with the most votes will be awarded this year’s hospitality award on 27 September, World Tourism Day.

After a hubbub of summer, Neringa is kindly inviting you to welcome the new season in the Curonian Spit - with an abundance of events and opportunities for precious rest and inspiration.
