The war against Ukraine launched by the Russian Federation shocked the world. It have brought uncertainty and fear not only in the tourism sector, but also in the lives of each of us.
We hear and feel that for some people planning a regular holiday in Neringa, located in the vicinity of the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation, is raising security issues. The Lithuanian Armed Forces shares the facts and states: the situation in the Kaliningrad region is stable and constantly monitored.
In order to appease Neringa’s visitors and bring clarity, we share the information provided by the Lithuanian Armed Forces about the current situation:
Firstly, the military activity of the Russian forces in the Kaliningrad region of Russia is being monitored and is unchanged. The composition of the Russian forces in Kaliningrad is no different from our usual one – the same units are standing.
Secondly, the situation in the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation is monitored by the intelligence capabilities of both Lithuania and other NATO countries. State officials are informed about the situation on a daily basis. It is a routine that has been going on for years. The population would be notified immediately of any significant changes in the situation.
Thirdly, the Lithuanian Armed Forces and combat units of the Land Forces and Special Operations Forces are deployed in this region.
Fourth, the number of NATO allies in Lithuania today reaches 3,000 troops, with tanks Leopard and Abrams, artillery and short-range air defense systems.
Fifthly, Lithuanian airspace and its accesses are constantly monitored, if necessary, control is ensured by 13 NATO Allied fighter jets currently on duty in Šiauliai.
